Activating your UnitedHealthcare (UHC) card is only the first step. Once your card is activated at Activate.uhc.com, the same portal becomes your home base for managing benefits, tracking claims, viewing your digital ID card, and keeping your account secure. This guide walks you through both — activation and ongoing account management — so you can get the most out of your UHC plan.

Why Activate.uhc.com matters

Activate.uhc.com is UnitedHealthcare’s official activation and member portal. From a single sign-in you can:
  • Activate a new UHC medical, dental, vision, or UCard
  • View and download your digital member ID card
  • Check UCard balances and covered benefits
  • Review claims, deductibles, and out-of-pocket totals
  • Find in-network doctors, pharmacies, and facilities
  • Update your contact info, password, and security settings
Because the portal handles both activation and ongoing management, it’s important to set it up correctly the first time.

Before you begin

Have the following ready:
  • Your UHC card (physical or welcome letter)
  • Your Member ID and date of birth
  • A valid email address and mobile number for verification
  • A device with a secure internet connection

Part 1: Activate your UHC card

Follow these steps to activate your card at Activate.uhc.com.

1. Go to Activate.uhc.com

Open your browser and visit activate.uhc.com. Confirm the URL is spelled correctly and the padlock icon appears in the address bar.

2. Enter your card information

Type in your Member ID, card number, and date of birth exactly as they appear on your UHC card.

3. Verify your identity

Confirm your ZIP code, enter the last four digits of your SSN, answer a security question, or enter the one-time code sent by text or email.

4. Sign in or create an account

Existing members click Sign In and enter their username and password. First-time users click Create Account, then choose a username, strong password, and recovery email or phone number.

5. Complete multi-factor authentication (MFA)

Enter the verification code sent to your phone or email to secure your login. The portal will link the card to your account and display a confirmation screen. Watch for a confirmation email or text.

7. Start using your benefits

View your digital ID card, check your UCard balance, and explore covered services from your member dashboard.

Part 2: Manage your UHC account

Once activated, use the same login at Activate.uhc.com to manage every part of your plan.

View your digital ID card

From the dashboard, open ID Card to view, download, or share your digital member ID. You can present it at appointments or pharmacies directly from your phone.

Track claims and costs

Open the Claims section to see recent visits, amounts billed, what your plan paid, and what you owe. You can also monitor your deductible and out-of-pocket maximum progress in real time.

Check your UCard balance

If your plan includes a UCard, open UCard Balance to see available funds for groceries, OTC items, utilities, or credits — plus where you can spend them.

Find in-network care

Use the Find Care tool to search for in-network doctors, specialists, hospitals, urgent care, pharmacies, and dental or vision providers near you.

Manage prescriptions

Under Pharmacy, review current prescriptions, request refills, price medications, and set up home delivery when available.

Update personal information

Go to Profile or Account Settings to update your address, phone number, email, and communication preferences so you never miss an important plan update.

Strengthen account security

In Security Settings you can:
  • Change your password
  • Update security questions
  • Enable or update multi-factor authentication (MFA)
  • Review recent sign-in activity

Set up paperless and notifications

Turn on paperless statements and email or text notifications so you get claim updates, refill reminders, and plan documents instantly.

Tips for a smooth experience

  • Use the same login for the web portal and the UnitedHealthcare mobile app.
  • Bookmark activate.uhc.com so you always land on the official page.
  • Never share your Member ID, password, or MFA codes with anyone.
  • Sign out when using a shared or public device.
  • If a screen looks unusual, close the browser and start again from activate.uhc.com directly.

Troubleshooting common issues

  • Card not recognized: Double-check the Member ID and card number for typos. If the card is brand new, wait 24–48 hours after receiving it.
  • MFA code not arriving: Confirm the phone number or email on file, check spam folders, then request a new code.
  • Locked out: Use Forgot Username or Forgot Password, or call the Member Services number on the back of your card.
  • Browser issues: Try a different browser, clear cache and cookies, or disable extensions that block scripts.
