Start with a quick 30-second checklist
Before trying advanced steps, confirm the basics:- You’re on the URL:
activate.uhc.com(padlock icon visible) - Caps Lock is off
- Your internet connection is stable
- Your card is not expired and the info matches your welcome letter
- You waited 24–48 hours after receiving a brand-new card
1. “Invalid username or password”
The most common sign-in error. Try this:- Retype your username and password carefully (watch for extra spaces).
- Use Forgot Username to have it emailed to you.
- Use Forgot Password to reset it. Choose a strong new password with letters, numbers, and a symbol.
- If you have multiple UHC logins (personal, employer, Medicare), make sure you’re using the one tied to activation.
2. “Card not recognized” during activation
Usually a data-entry or timing issue. Try this:- Re-check your Member ID and card number for typos (0 vs O, 1 vs I).
- Enter your date of birth in the exact format shown (MM/DD/YYYY).
- If your card is brand new, wait 24–48 hours after delivery, then try again.
- Confirm your card hasn’t been replaced by a newer one — always use the most recent card.
3. MFA code isn’t arriving
Multi-factor authentication codes can be delayed by carrier issues or spam filters. Try this:- Verify the phone number or email on file is correct.
- Check your spam / junk folder for the email code.
- Wait 60 seconds, then click Resend code.
- Switch delivery method (text → email or email → text) if offered.
- Make sure your phone has signal and can receive SMS from short codes.
4. Account is locked
Too many failed attempts will temporarily lock your account. Try this:- Wait 15–30 minutes, then try again.
- Use Forgot Password to reset instead of guessing.
- If still locked, call the Member Services number on the back of your card.
5. Page won’t load or keeps refreshing
Often a browser or network issue rather than a UHC problem. Try this:- Refresh the page or reopen the browser tab.
- Clear cache and cookies for activate.uhc.com, then try again.
- Try a different browser (Chrome, Edge, Safari, Firefox).
- Disable extensions, ad blockers, or script blockers.
- Turn off any active VPN and retry.
- Test on a different network (e.g., switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data).
6. “Session expired” or you’re kicked back to the login screen
UHC ends inactive sessions for security. Try this:- Sign in again and complete each step without long pauses.
- Close extra tabs of activate.uhc.com so you’re not signed in twice.
- Make sure your device’s date and time are set automatically — wrong system time can break secure logins.
7. Wrong site or phishing warning
If the URL looks off, stop and start over. Try this:- Type activate.uhc.com directly into the address bar.
- Do not click sign-in links from unknown emails or texts.
- Confirm the padlock icon and correct domain before entering any details.
- If a site asks for information UHC would never need (full SSN, banking passwords), close the tab immediately.
8. Trouble on mobile
Mobile browsers can be more sensitive to cookies and pop-ups. Try this:- Update your browser and phone OS to the latest version.
- Use the UnitedHealthcare mobile app instead — same login as the web portal.
- If auto-fill is entering old credentials, clear saved logins for uhc.com and retype them manually.
9. You created two accounts by mistake
Common when someone forgets an old login and creates a new one. Try this:- Call Member Services and ask them to merge or deactivate the duplicate.
- Going forward, use Forgot Username before creating a new account.
10. Still can’t get in
If you’ve tried the fixes above and are still stuck:- Call the Member Services phone number printed on the back of your UHC card.
- Have your Member ID, card number, and date of birth ready.
- Ask them to verify your contact info, unlock your account, and confirm your card is active on their side.
Prevent future sign-in problems
- Bookmark activate.uhc.com so you never mistype the URL.
- Use a password manager to store your UHC username and password securely.
- Keep your email and phone number up to date under Account Settings.
- Enable and test MFA on a device you always have.
- Sign in every few weeks so you don’t forget your credentials.
